English designer Robert Jones made his Royal Opera House Covent Garden debut in 2015, designing sets for Andrea Chénier, directed by David McVicar.
He trained at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. His West End credits include Fatal Attraction, Kiss Me Kate, The Wizard of Oz, The Sound of Music, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, The Secret Rapture, Benefactors, Calendar Girls (UK tour, Australia and Canada), Jolson (Canada and Australia) and The Sound of Music (Toronto, UK tour and Tokyo). He has designed more than 15 productions for the Royal Shakespeare Company, including Romeo and Juliet, Twelfth Night, The Merchant of Venice, Hamlet and Othello, and productions for the National Theatre including Look Back in Anger, Noises Off (West End and Broadway) and The Playboy of the Western World.
Other theater work includes credits with the Donmar Warehouse, Chichester Festival Theatre, Hampstead Theatre, Sheffield Crucible, Manchester Royal Exchange and on Broadway.
Film work includes Hamlet for BBC Films/Illuminations. Rob Jones regularly collaborates with David McVicar in opera, with credits including The Coronation of Poppea (Paris and Berlin), Don Carlo (Frankfurt), Giulio Cesare in Egitto (Glyndebourne Festival, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Metropolitan Opera), Tristan und Isolde (Tokyo and Vienna), Don Giovanni (Opera Australia) and Anna Bolena (Metropolitan Opera). His other opera designs include Die Fledermaus (Metropolitan Opera), Werther (La Coruña), The Elixir of Love (English National Opera) and Manon Lescaut (Gothenburg). He has been nominated for two Olivier Awards and is the winner of a Canadian Dora Award and a Drama Logue Award.
