Daniel Evans is the Artistic Director of Chichester Festival Theatre.
Previously he was Artistic Director at Sheffield Theatres (2009-16) where he directed Flowers for Mrs Harris, Show Boat (joint winners of UK Theatre Awards 2016 Best Musical Production); Anything Goes, The Sheffield Mysteries, Oliver! (WhatsOnStage Awards Best Regional Production); This Is My Family (UK Theatre Awards Best Musical Production); An Enemy of the People, Racing Demon, Othello, Macbeth, My Fair Lady (WhatsOnStage Awards Best Regional Production) and The Full Monty (UK Theatre Awards Best Touring Production); as an actor he appeared in Company, The Pride, Cloud Nine and The Tempest. In the West End he directed Show Boat (New London Theatre: 2017 Olivier Awards nomination Best Musical Revival); The Full Monty (Noël Coward Theatre) and American Buffalo (Wyndham’s Theatre).
As an actor, Daniels’ credits include Henry V, Coriolanus, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Measure for Measure and Cymbeline (RSC); Cardiff East, Peter Pan, Troilus and Cressida, Candide and The Merchant of Venice (National Theatre); Merrily We Roll Along (Olivier Award); Grand Hotel (Donmar Warehouse); Ghosts (ETT); Sunday in the Park with George (Olivier Award, Tony nomination); Total Eclipse (Menier Chocolate Factory); Other People, Cleansed, Where Do We Live and 4:48 Psychosis (Royal Court).
Television credits include The Passion, Doctor Who, The Virgin Queen, Spooks, Love in a Cold Climate, Great Expectations, Daniel Deronda and To the Ends of the Earth. Films include Les Misérables.
He is a Fellow of the Guildhall School and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Sheffield Hallam University in 2012 and is a trustee of Act for Change.
